Alaina Fernandez
Alaina started the Gymnast Mindset program mid season because her parents could see from the stands how much of a nervous wreck she was. They could see her posture and body language looking terrified. She would go into a meet so nervous and scared, never really enjoying the experience of competing. Alaina had a goal of being a regional qualifier at state this year. Being in Colorado, due to covid she didn’t really have a lot of meets this year to get the jitters out. Not only did she earn 2nd place all around, she is Colorado’s level 7 state champ on beam and bars AND met her goal of being a regional qualifier!!
The thing that made her success so special was not the medals, but her demeanor and positive attitude during the meet. She told me she made a mistake on floor and while disappointed, she did not cry and did not take her frustration to the next event. She said she actually had FUN at the meet! Her mom said that she has never seen her so calm and excited to compete in a big meet as opposed to nervous and scared. She said her body language was more confident and her whole outlook was great!
